Lunow Update March 2010

“The greatest crime in the desert is finding water and keeping silent”

-Arabic Proverb

Recently, upon invitation, we joined a small gathering of Filipino Muslim background believers and missionaries working together with them. The purpose: To receive this visiting brother in Christ and his wife, listening to their testimony of how God transformed them, and receiving their insights on how to best represent Jesus Christ, the Living Water, to people who are thirsty for love, joy, peace, forgiveness, and assurance of eternal life! He challenged us:  Many fear what will happen to them if they share the Gospel of Jesus Christ to Muslims; yet what are the consequences if we do not? The former involves temporary suffering; yet the latter holds eternal consequence. For those of us who have found the Living Water, let us not be guilty of the greatest crime!

This past January, Sherri received training on Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). Not only was this a useful tool to learn for the future, but it also connected her with national missionaries, also being trained, who asked Sherri questions about our ministry focus. This led to an explanation of ORGANIC MINISTRY, meaning the spiritual life within us, through Jesus, that empowers us to be relational disciple-makers within the culture. This includes small fellowships where everyone participates as a community with Jesus as the Head. Islam is a culture, so we must learn to understand the thinking behind it and how to relate within in before we can effectively bring Jesus to it. As the Apostle Paul says, “Even though I am a free man with no master, I have become a slave to all people to bring many to Christ…Yes, I try to find common ground with everyone, doing everything I can to save some.”

I Corinthians 9:19,22b.We are currently working on a small booklet to describe in simple terms the principles & practices of organic ministry. Some of Sherri’s friends who translate into Ethnic languages have already requested that we put this booklet into their hands to be translated and used by the people, as soon as we are able. Please pray for us in this endeavor!

Mid-May Ellie & Ethan will join us here in the Philippines, Adam will graduate, and early June we’ll all fly to Indonesia for a two-week visit where we’ll join Jon’s dad in Papua! After that, it’s back to Davao City, final farewells, then on to Michigan the end of June. In July we’ll spend time with both sides of our extended families, and in late August we’ll begin our fall travels to visit many of you! We’ll be in touch to confirm details. Please contact us as well when needed. Please note the new address and phone# for PowerSurge Worship Ministries (below).
