Project Sweden August 2010 Update

“I am sending you to them to open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.”
Acts 26:17b-18

Dear friends and family,

As most of you know my wife and I have been praying about God’s direction for the next step in our Sweden missions ministry. Well September 10-18 we took a scouting trip to Uppsala, Sweden a town that has 50,000 Swedish and international university students where the population is 40% international. Being just a 35 minute train ride from the capital Stockholm, Uppsala is a prominent city and the 4th largest in Sweden.

We had the opportunity to meet with some local churches and missionaries who with open arms said they wanted and needed us there working with them. After and during our trip we felt strong confirmation that Uppsala is the place God wants us. All three of us really enjoyed our time there and knew this is where God wants us. It was important for us that our daughter Elizabeth felt excited about Sweden, and it was great because she didn’t even want to leave. We visited the international English speaking elementary school that she will be attending and felt at peace about the teachers and school. There are many options at the school for how she can learn especially when it comes to the Swedish language.

We had the opportunity to meet Ed Thomas who before coming to Sweden was a celebrity chef in CA but is now a priest in the Church of Sweden trying to change it from the inside out preaching the truth about Jesus which is rare among Swedish priests. We will be partnering with him with their Cross Culture international Christian fellowship group in their nighttime service helping to lead worship, teach, lead small groups, and cook. We will also be working together with Korskyrkan (The Cross Church) who is giving us our formal invitation to work with them so that we can get our permits to live in Sweden. We will be helping there also to lead worship, work the sound system, teach Bible studies and small groups, and evangelize. Korskyrkan has a great heart to see souls won to Jesus and has an open heart for internationals as well and they will be our home church in Uppsala.

Lastly we will be working with Barrett and Victoria Harkins who are with Campus Crusade (called Agape Sverige in Sweden), to share the gospel among university students most of whom have no idea who Jesus truly is. We will plan on hosting Bible studies, free meals for students, hang out times, and discipleship times in our homes as the most effective way to connect with students. Pray for us as we will be spending the upcoming months intensively building up long-term financial partnerships so that we can head back to Sweden fully funded. If you know of any individuals, businesses, or churches that might have the ability to partner with us please help us get connected with them.
